Frequently Asked Questions

How does SoberWave count my days and money saved?

Your count starts from the sober start date you set and goes up by one each day. Money saved is worked out from what you told SoberWave you used to spend on drinking, and it shows up in your front page headline.

I had a drink. What now?

It happens, and it doesn't erase what you've learned. You can update your sober start date in Settings whenever you need to. If it helps, tap Surf and read your letter.

What is Surf?

Surf is based on urge surfing: a craving builds, peaks, and passes, like a wave. Tap the wave in the middle of the tab bar for a three-minute guided breathing exercise. From there you can Talk it out, open My letter, or tap I'm okay now when the wave has passed.

How do weather reports work?

Each day, report how you're feeling as weather, from stormy to rainbow. Until you do, your front page says "Weather: not yet reported." In the Journal, the Forecast shows your last five weeks and the Barometer charts your last 14 reports.

How does the drinks menu scanner work?

Go to Going Out and tap Open the scanner, then take a photo of the menu. Lines where nothing alcoholic is listed are highlighted and marked "likely a-f" (alcohol-free). The scanner can misread small or stylized text and can't see ingredients a menu leaves out, so always check with staff. It's a normal question.

How do tricky place warnings work?

In Going Out, tap Edit on the map to pin places that test you, or add situations like Friday office drinks. If you allow location access, SoberWave gives you an early warning when you're near a pinned place. Warnings depend on your phone's location being available, so they can arrive late.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

Photos you file on the Photo Desk are read on your phone, captioned, and filed under a beat like Touch Grass or Golden Hour. Each new beat earns a sticker for your sticker book. Drinks menu photos are also read on your phone.

How do I add the Sober Calendar widget?

Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen, tap Edit, then Add Widget. Search for SoberWave, swipe to the widget you want, and tap Add Widget.

How do I move my data to a new phone?

Make sure iCloud Backup is turned on for your iPhone. When you set up your new phone from that backup, your SoberWave data comes with it.

Is SoberWave medical treatment?

No. SoberWave is a self-help tool, and Talk it out is not a counselor or crisis service. If you drink heavily or every day, talk to a doctor before you stop, because alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are billed and managed through your Apple ID (App Store). To cancel or change your plan, go to your device's subscription settings directly. We're unable to process billing changes from our end.

Is there a free trial?

No. SoberWave does not currently offer a free trial. You're charged immediately when you subscribe to either the weekly ($1.99/week) or yearly ($24.99/year) plan.

How do I delete my data?

You can delete individual check-ins, photos, letters, or tricky places from within the app. To request full account and data deletion, email us using the contact details below.
